They are road signs from the ‘US of A’, most often seen by the grinning European Saab-pilot in the movies and video games. This further steals any sense of reality from the situation as the pilot steers around the orange and white striped obstacles. He bears on towards his destination, a party, “with a blue light, a DJ, and an illuminated gnome,” scoring imaginary points in this fantasy land.
