Fastest lift of the day: 150 miles from a Glaswegian speed freak who arrived so fast that he took me out of his way into the centre of Glasgow to kill time before meeting his friends.
Shortest lift of the day: once around a roundabout while my driver and I figured out that we wanted different directions on the M6.
Food intake: Nasty nasty nasty – Ginsters pies from petrol station shops, and cardboard burger and chips at an unexotic location known as ‘Truckhaven‘.
Longest waits: two hours on two occasions.
