Having previously given up on reading and on books with long words, I’m getting a woody for Will Self’s work again. He’s the thinking junkie’s answer to Bez, and it turns out that he hasn’t stopped writing since I’ve stopped reading.
I’m snorting up some of his blogs right now, and toying with the idea of short stories, using my own self-invented restraint system called Amazon-24 to order some books.
You know how “One-click-ordering” allows you to spend money at Amazon before your brain can tell you that you don’t really need a book about breadmaking in bronze-age Mesopotamia? Well, the Amazon-24 system allows you to put books in your wish list or save them for later, and prevents you from buying them for 24 hours. Or until the next time you return to the site two weeks later wondering why on earth you ever thought you needed more books to sit unread on your to-read list. Especially books about real estate investment in Tajikistan.
