I’ve been to Austin writing camp. I’ve been to OpenCamp. It seems that despite my claims to the contrary, I actually do go to conferences – though typically only if family or friends are presenting.
Writing is kind of fun, though I prefer blogging. “It’s like writing. ON STEROIDS” or like a 200 word cliché waiting to happen. Something you can do when you’re drunk. So why not go to conferences? I’ve got kids and I work partly from home – why shouldn’t I pay to stay at a hotel in a strange place and drink cocktails with people I don’t really know?
On that note, I started looking at blogging conferences, and one thing that really struck me is the Casual Bloggers Conference in March 2011. So casual, that it has been postponed until 2012. Way to go!
The other thing that struck me is that most people have a topic or theme for their blog. I can see how that would be an advantage. You know, for connecting with a group of people of like-minded people. From memory my ever changing theme has had such words as: bacon, wrestling, jellyfish, jaded, become and Thailand in the title at various times. The only thing you can be sure of here is inconsistency! And no longer when you google “party photo gimp” does my picture show up. So inconsistency does have it’s advantages.
So there’s one in Colorado Springs in July, when it will be ridiculously hot in Texas. That looks appealing. Who’s in?
