Challenge of the day: Find the world’s biggest blini, the Kremlin, and a ticket to Irkutsk. To infinity and beyond
So there I was on Thursday night, wandering past these preparations for a festival near Red Square. There was a large video screen and it looked like they were getting things set up in the rain. Hence the plan to go see things on Friday. It was described as a 1million dollar knees up, billed by the major as ‘a new festival – Russia’s answer to the Carnival in Rio’. So I was pretty excited. Except that it was on the Thursday. I had walked past in as it was in full swing. They’d made a 1 km long pancake strip. The guiness book of wankers said that this didn’t count as it wasn’t circular, so the record remains held by a mob from Rochdale. That’s a lot of eggs wasted. Although the bonanza-blini was given to ‘6000 partygoers’ according to one gazette. Yet another paper claimed that there were only around 125 people present. Not sure if they counted me twice as I was wandering around.
One great source of information is The Exile, which covers such things as international women’s day in an enlightening way (give her the gift of anal). I had previously thought I had been enlightened by Stefanie in the Distillers – learning it was “women’s day” not “ladies’ day” as the lady/woman in the excellent Russian Visa consultancy had told me.
