Tokyo is very tiring. So much so that people seem to fall asleep any place, any time, any position. My favourite sleeping Japanese encounters were:
- In the hotel: a guy who had fallen asleep standing up whilst using a public phone. His head was resting on the wall behind the phone, and he was still holding the receiver
- In the Sony Store: a couple had positioned themselves on the sofas in a turbo digital surround sound wega home cinema demo lounge. To the booming sound of aircraft bombing Vietnam, they were both snoring gently. Great promotional value for Sony I’m sure.
